History

Founded in 1998

Alta Vista occupies an 1890 building in Chacras de Coria, Luján de Cuyo, listed as provincial heritage. In 1998 Count Patrick d'Aulan and his family, former owners of the Piper-Heidsieck champagne house, launched the project and restored the winery, adding French architectural detail without altering the original structure. Cane roofs, iron gates forged from old barrel hoops and the 1890 underground cellars survive, holding more than a thousand French oak barrels. Vineyards in Mendoza and Salta sit above 1,000 metres and are roughly 70% Malbec, with more than half the vines over 80 years old. The winery opens daily from 9am to 6pm by prior reservation; tours cover the vineyard, the concrete-vat and tank rooms and the cellars, ending in tastings that range from five entry labels to the Single Vineyard range. The Assemblage restaurant and the seasonal La Campiña lunch operate in the gardens.
