History
Founded in 1898
Bodegas López sits in General Gutiérrez, Maipú, and has stayed in the founding family's hands since the López Rivas brothers made their first wines there in 1898. It is a large urban winery known for a classic house style: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec blends aged for years in big French oak casks from Nancy, alongside Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay varietals from its own vineyards in Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and Tupungato. The standard guided tour runs about an hour and walks through the crushing floor, fermentation tanks, pneumatic presses, cask halls, the cellars of long-aging wines and the modern bottling plant, includes entry to the museum, and ends with a tasting. There is also a sparkling-wine facility, the Rincón de López restaurant, private and vertical Montchenot tastings and blending workshops. Booking ahead is required, and tours run in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
