History
Founded in 1999
Tierras Altas is the boutique winery of the Vargas Arizu family, located in Carrodilla, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, along the Acceso Sur highway. It was built in 1999 by the family's third generation — Vicente, Daniel and Rodolfo Vargas Arizu — to carry forward a family winemaking tradition spanning more than a century in the region. The winery produces two lines: Tierras Altas, featuring Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc among other varietals, and Contrabando, a more experimental range including orange wine, blends and rosés. Visits include a guided walk through the vineyards and underground cellar, sommelier-led tastings of both lines, and the on-site Juana María restaurant, serving contemporary Mendoza cuisine with vineyard views. The grounds also host private events and weddings.
