History

Founded in 2002

Melipal was a family winery founded in 2002 by the Aristi family in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, on National Route 7, about 20 minutes from Mendoza city. It farmed roughly 74 hectares of estate vineyard with Malbec as its core variety; the best-known parcel is Las Nazarenas, 25 hectares planted in 1923. Wines were released under two brands, Melipal and Ikella, including the single-vineyard Nazarenas Vineyard 1923 Malbec. In June 2019 Achaval Ferrer acquired the winery, the vineyards and both brands. The Agrelo property now trades under the Achaval Ferrer name and its restaurant is Quimera Bistró. The bodegamelipal.com domain no longer belongs to the winery and the Instagram account has not posted since April 2019, so no visits or bookings exist under the Melipal name.
