History

Founded in 1997

Dolium is a family winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, founded in 1997 by engineer Mario Giadorou. Its own website describes it as the first underground winery in Argentina: the entire production area was built below ground, echoing the Roman practice of storing wine at constant temperature, in a linear design by architects Bormida & Yanzón. Grapes come from Agrelo, Perdriel, Lunlunta and Chacras de Coria, with Malbec as the flagship across the Eco/Estate, Petit Reserva, Reserva and Gran Reserva ranges. It has been a certified B Corporation since 2014. Visits are small and personal, hosted by the owners or the winemakers: a view over the buried cellar, a walk through it, and comparative tastings of terroirs, vintages and varietals. Open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm; weekends by prior reservation.
