History

Founded in 1937

Bodega Murville is a family winery founded in 1937 by Sicilian immigrant Rafael Salafia on a 10-hectare property in San Rafael, southern Mendoza, roughly 230 km from Mendoza City. It is now run by the family's third generation, who in the 1990s added Charmat-method sparkling wine production, making Murville a pioneer of natural frizzante wines in Argentina. The estate sits at about 800 meters above sea level, in a zone with wide day-night temperature swings that favor malbec, cabernet franc, chardonnay and other varieties. Across roughly 100 hectares spread over four properties, the winery produces varietal and reserve wines under the Sexto Sentido and il Segreto lines, plus sparkling and frizzante wines under the Murville label. Visitors can take guided tours of the vineyard, production plant and sparkling-wine facility, followed by tastings and food pairings ranging from empanadas to a full lunch on-site.
