History

Founded in 1902

Bodega Catena Zapata sits in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, on Calle Cobos. The story begins in 1902, when Italian immigrant Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza; generations later his grandson Nicolás Catena Zapata drove Argentina's high-altitude Malbec revolution and identified the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary at nearly 1,500 metres. The winery building is a Mayan-inspired pyramid set among vines with the Andes behind it, one of the most photographed in Mendoza. Visits are by advance reservation only, in small groups of up to ten people, booked through the Meitre platform. Official experiences pair a winery tour with a five-wine tasting, a hands-on blending session, or a wine-and-music sensory tasting. The Angélica Cocina Maestra restaurant operates on the same estate.
