Founded in 2008
Matervini is the venture Santiago Achával and Roberto Cipresso started in 2008 in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, beside a Malbec vineyard planted in 1938 that yields their Finca wine. The guiding question is "what comes after Malbec?" and the answer is more Malbec: separate labels from contrasting terroirs, from Chacayes in the Uco Valley to Viña Canota and Piedras Viejas in the Mendoza Precordillera and the Calchaquí Valleys of Salta. It makes about 40,000 bottles a year and was the first Argentine winery to cover all of its electricity use with solar panels. Visits need advance booking, run 90 minutes and take place Monday to Saturday in Spanish, English or Portuguese: vineyard, concrete-vat room and barrel room, ending with a guided tasting in the upper terrace room, in groups of up to eight.
