TERRADA 1863, MAYOR DRUMOND
LUJAN DE CUYO
History
Founded in 2002
Mendel is a small boutique winery in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo, founded in 2002 by winemaker Roberto de la Mota together with the Sielecki family. Old vines are its signature: 11 hectares of massal-selection Malbec planted in 1928 at Finca Mendel, 950 metres above sea level, alongside Finca de los Andes in Perdriel and Finca Remota in Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco. Output is deliberately small and built around age-worthy reds: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and the Unus blend, plus a barrel-fermented Semillón and the Lunta range. Visits run Monday to Friday except holidays and must be booked in advance: you walk the 1928 vineyard, tour the original period winery and finish with a guided tasting of wines and olive oil.
